Conflicting reports re Ahman Green signing with Packers

by

Reports from earlier today indicated the deal had happened. However, Greb Bedard reported later this afternoon that it may not happen. Part of it depends on DeShawn Wynn’s knee and apparently whether or not he may be placed on injured reserve. Green’s agent says nothing has been done yet.

I wouldn’t be opposed to making Ahman part of the team again. He was a popular player who played hard – and watching him run over defensive backs (and sometimes LBs) was one of my favorite things to watch. I wonder if he was brought in at least in part because he is good at catching passes out of the backfield and because he’s not a bad blocker in pass protection. There may even be a mentor factor here for Brandon Jackson (Jackson, like Green went from Lincoln, NE to Green Bay). Even though I would prefer that we sign veterans for other positions where being old is less of a negative factor (Ahman is 32), I would welcome Green back.

Come on–Ahman is over the hill and brings little to the table at this point. Is he in shape? can he hang on to the ball with so little practice time? Jackson for Barnett, Nelson or Jones and a #1.

any hope for trading for a running back was crushed several hours ago. Its TT remember? :((

The good news is Green’s numbers are actually pretty decent. The bad news is he missed most of the 2005, 2007, and 2008 seasons (I think all because of injury–I don’t remember hearing anything else).

But when you compare his numbers to Ryan Grant… the best thing you can say about him is that Grant has managed to stay healthy so far.

I loved Batman when he was a Packer. He’s now 32, and only played less then half the games the last to years. The Packers will not get anywhere by going back to the future. There must be a good young running back they can pick up somewhere.

Let’s remember we are signing a 3rd running back. I am guessing he doesn’t see the field much unless Grant or Jackson get hurt and he most likely won’t even be active most weeks. This is simply churning the bottom of the roster which says more about what they think of Wynn and Lumpkin then what is says about Green. But, it sure would have been nice to have Sutton on the roster right now instead of one of the three FB’s.
