Grant calls Favre a traitor – sort of…

Thanks to Stacey P who sent this link to us. She found this link at The Big Lead – Ryan Grant interview where he playfully calls Favre a traitor (though I suspect he may actually believe it).

Just in from behind enemy lines at the Star Tribune: (Judd is a Sports writer up there.)

    Favre staying retired
    July 28th, 2009 – 3:53 PM by Chip Scoggins
Judd just received a phone call from Brad Childress who said he talked to Brett Favre and that he was informed that Favre is staying retired. Childress cited the daily grind both mentally and physically as part of the reason why Favre remained retired.

“I just think it was a rare opportunity to explore a Hall of Fame quarterback who had background in the NFC and in this division,” Childress said. “He knows our system inside out … This doesn’t change anything about how I feel about our football team.”

That is awesome. I had a feeling that he would stay retired when camp Favre leaked out earlier this week that he was still “anguished” over the decision and felt a ‘sense of obligation’ to the MN players. It seemed like a PR move to tamp down expectations that he was going to sign.

Isn’t it great that the Vikings had to deal with the worst part of Favre and never even got one single slant pass from the guy.

I’m glad he’s staying retired. I just didn’t want to deal with seeing him in a Vikings uniform or the storyline throughout the season.

Based on past events, I will believe he is retired for the 2009-10 season when the clock ticks 3, 2, 1, 00:00…at the end of the Super Bowl.

Heard Jared Allen on FoxSports on the way home and he commented that “the door is now shut”. I don’t doubt that he believes that, but if Tavaris or Sage stink coming into week 5 or 6, or potentially another team has someone go down with an injury, I bet he gets the call. Or in a few days he calls MN back and says he has the itch again, like last year. Either way, I don’t think this is over.

I was glad to hear that Brett decided to stay retired. However, like many people have stated today, you just can’t believe Brett when he says something. It’s not just the wishy-washy back and forth on the decision, but the lies and underhanded way he goes about things. Text messages. Man up and get in front of a camera for crissakes.
