Should the Pack bring in Larry Foote?

Just read here at PFT that the Steelers have cut starting LB Larry Foote in what some see as a surprising move. Apparently their roster is so loaded with LB talent that they felt they could part with a starter (actually it also had to do with cap issues). Larry Foote is a pretty good player, would probably not be too expensive, has very solid 3-4 experience, is only 28 years old and could if nothing else, add quality depth to our LB group. Given the uncertainties facing Barnett and his recovery, the uneven play from Hawk, the rookieness of Matthews and the questions re whether Kampman can play OLB, I’d feel more secure knowing we had a proven veteran LB on the team .

I don’t think that would be a terrible move at all but looks like Detroit might ge to him first

I think he would play inside LB. That puts him behind Hawk and Barnett. Might be a good idea if Barnett is not healthy or you want a really good backup. You only do that though if the price is right.

Any thoughts on Leroy Hill? I think he played strong side mostly. Seattle lifted the franchise tag on him after they drafted Curry. Two pretty good LB’s on the free market right now.

Since there is no thread posted here yet, I’ll start one. Brett Favre was released from the Jets today. He requested the action through his agent, Bus Cook. Will Brett unretire this year if the right team wants him? Who would that “right team” be? Has Brett damaged his reputation amongst the NFL higher ups with his last season as a Jet?

DaveK – I saw that too re Hill. He is a quality player and a tremendously athletic guy. I wouldn’t mind adding him either, but I think his price tag would be quite a bit higher than Foote’s. Also, Foote has 3-4 experience and I don’t think Hill does.

Bring in Foote, what can it hurt to have more talent in camp.

I watched quite a bit of him when he played in college, and his brother is doing okay for Tampa Bay, why not think of bringing in the just released (by the Pats) Bo Ruud? I think he might compliment the rest of the LB’s a lot better than “Pile On” Poppinga.

Give Ted Thompson a call tonight and let him know. He’d be a good fit in the 3-4 Packer D.

The Pack should sign him, he’d stuff the parrot.
