Sanders Gone

This from the (via Greg Bedard).

I think it was important to do this quickly.  Many teams are interviewing potential coaches and coordinators and there was a risk that by waiting the Packers could have lost potential coordinators just by being too late to the game.

I don’t think the Packers’ scheme was fatally flawed.  Remember, the Packers finished 11th in total defense last year.  But I do think it’s worth considering a switch to a 3-4 (given that many of the league’s top defenses are 3-4).  Greg Bedard mentions Mike Nolan — he’d be great.

More thoughts later.

If you go to a 3-4 what happens to Kampmann and Jenkins? I’m not opposed but the free agent route has to be a part of anything like this.

Since I have been calling for his head for several weeks now so I’m not surprised or disappointed. I just wonder what took so long?

If McCarthy is as loyal as it appears that he is, I would expect Nolan to be hired any day now. And its a move i would be just fine with, and fine with Crennel or Mangini (but i doubt Mangini would happen)…Winston Moss is an interesting look, but I think new blood is a MUST

Forget about a new D.C. – We need a special ‘pad-level’ assistant. That needs to be ‘cleaned up’.

  5. DaveK Says:

It looks like they fired the entire defensive coaching staff except Moss.

Maybe Moss wanted the staff cleaned out before he is named D.C.???
