Favre Solid

by

I can’t get the Packers-49er game until tomorrow at 1pm on NFL Network.  But I did see Brett Favre debut with Jets.  Wow.  He looks very, very good — and this after a week in which he said his arm was “fatigued.”  Five-of-six for 48 yards and a touchdown.  At one point the play-by-play announcer — I think it was Mike Patrick — said Favre looked to be in “mid-season form.”  (I guess that’s better than post-season form for Favre of late, right?)

He could do very well this year.

I’m watching the Packers/49ers game right now. They need a lot of work. A lot.

The Packers need to work on both of their lines (O & D). If they can fix both of those it will be a different year. If not it is going to be a long 16 week season. As far as Favre’s debut in NY even if he is amazing will he ultimately be successful in the AFC? It is tougher and different compared to the NFC North and I don’t think that one 2 series game will ultimately tell us how Brett will do. If his line can hold up and ultimately the competition sucks he will succeed in the AFC. Otherwise who knows who is going to end up with a better situation. Without a doubt it will be interesting to watch.

This was just ugly, even for a preseason game:
    — 7 drives that didn’t go 10 yards
    — 3 drives ended with a fumble
    — the longest drive before garbage time went 28 yards

Maybe some of this can be blamed on the short week, but can the 49ers really be that much better than last year? Suddenly I’m way less optimistic about the regular season.

I know, it’s preseason and the score or who won or lost doesn’t mean anything. That said, there are two glaring problems that need work now. The O-Line and the D-Line. No push on either side of the ball. If this doesn’t improve it will be a long season. The O-line is not up to NFL standards yet. 6 sacks is grounds for divorce. The D-Line 1st unit is ok. As soon as they substitute the concept of tackling runners is forgotten. Jeremey Thompson, Muir and Hunter should have their bags packed. Jarred Bush might want to rethink his career options too.

Thank you Jordy Nelsen for the only game highlights. Maybe if McCarthy had been coaching instead of pulling Personnel Mgt. duties for the first two weeks of camp they would be further along.

Plus if you don’t think Favre cherry picked what plays he was going to throw, for his “first TD as a Jet”, you’re naive. Rodgers had some decent throws – DD and Lee dropped ’em. I was telling a guy last night at the sports bar I watched the game at, if you didn’t boo Favre for giving the Giants the interception that led to the Super Bowl, you can’t boo Rodgers for anything he’s going to do all season.
