Price for Favre on the Rise?

Grain of salt, of course.  But Roy Cummings with the Tampa Tribune is reporting that while the Jets may be “winning” the ongoing bidding war for Favre, the Buccaneers are not likely to let Brett Favre end up in New York without a serious attempt to get him.  And that could mean that the Packers could get real compensation — as opposed to the Chris Simms/4th round pick scenario I floated earlier.  Cummings:

Don’t count out the Bucs, though.

The Glazers are star catchers and they see Favre as a star worth chasing. This deal then, at least as it pertains to the Bucs, has become as much about business as football.

More interesting, though, is his speculation on what it might take to get Favre:

The question that remains is whether the Bucs are willing to win the bidding war, which could wind up costing them a No. 1 draft pick plus a player and maybe another pick.

This seems quite high to me, but he’s the professional.  Needless to say, I think the Packers would be thrilled with this outcome — or just about any outcome that delivers a first-round pick to them.  Hard to imagine it wouldn’t be conditional, though.
