Price for Favre on the Rise?

by

Grain of salt, of course.  But Roy Cummings with the Tampa Tribune is reporting that while the Jets may be “winning” the ongoing bidding war for Favre, the Buccaneers are not likely to let Brett Favre end up in New York without a serious attempt to get him.  And that could mean that the Packers could get real compensation — as opposed to the Chris Simms/4th round pick scenario I floated earlier.  Cummings:

Don’t count out the Bucs, though.

The Glazers are star catchers and they see Favre as a star worth chasing. This deal then, at least as it pertains to the Bucs, has become as much about business as football.

More interesting, though, is his speculation on what it might take to get Favre:

The question that remains is whether the Bucs are willing to win the bidding war, which could wind up costing them a No. 1 draft pick plus a player and maybe another pick.

This seems quite high to me, but he’s the professional.  Needless to say, I think the Packers would be thrilled with this outcome — or just about any outcome that delivers a first-round pick to them.  Hard to imagine it wouldn’t be conditional, though.

No way do the Packers get a number one, another pick AND a player. That is someone who’s played too much fantasy football.

Is it too late to trade Favre for Manny?

According to Adam Schfler there is no bidding war for Favre. The Jets & Bucs have offered conditional pics and are just waiting for the Packers to make up their mind.

Adam Schfler – the voice of Goodell. Yeah, he knows what’s happening.

If Adam Schfler is right, what is keeping the Packers from just doing it and getting it over with? Is delaying the move a ploy to punish favre and his future team?

Still no time posted for T.T.’s press conference. Hopefully, that means something is happening.

  7. Kristin Says:

My sources say the delay is due to the Packers hiring former White House Counsel and Atty General Alberto Gonzales to broker the deal.

    Schefter. Not Schfler.

    Al Jones via WSSP;

Favre shattered by treatment from McCarthy. He’s looking at the trade and G.B’s compensation will be part of his decision process (Sounds ominous). He’s thinking right now it’s 60/40 Bucs. Close to home and play N.O. Lives just a little from the Superdome. Also, game 4 against GB. He slso would not rule out a team not being mentioned at this time.

The trade will not happen until Favre makes a commitment to them. And the beat goes on.

Still no time on T.T. press conference.

Who cares how he spells his name.
