Two Three points.
1) I agree that both Verno and DDD make solid contextual arguments, particularly this one: “practically every single word that has come out of Camp Favre has been a lie or distortion of the truth.” That’s why I noted in the original “bribe” post that it was worth waiting for the Packers to provide their spin.
2) It’s still a bribe. They were trying to pay Brett Favre to stay retired. That was not the motive in the Marino/Elway arrangements. It’s a bribe.
3) Given the reality of point number one, why would they want Favre “to make public appearances and engage in various marketing campaigns for the Packers?” Sure, it would end the impasse, which would be a favor to us all, but there are a lot of Packer fans who just want Brett Favre to go away.
