Favre to Jets now?

Read this post from profootballtalk.com. They cite this article in the Green Bay Press Gazette, but they share with us what the original title was for the article: “All But Over: Favre to Go to Jets (It’s Over: Favre traded to Jets)”. Interesting. I think the question would be, would Favre really report to the Jets – would he accept this trade? Especially if there’s any truth to the thought that he’s been angling to be a Viking all along? Though the Jets are better than their record last year, they don’t seem to fit Favre’s requirement of going to a contender.

This would be an interesting conclusion to all of this. I wonder what we’d get for Favre? Pennington and a fifth round pick? I wouldn’t mind something like that because I may be the only person left besides Pennington and his parents who thinks Pennington isn’t done yet. But my guess is TT will just go for as high a draft pick as he can – maybe a 3rd or a 4th rounder.

You know, I really really want to just have it be March again when Favre still seemed like a good guy, we could look forward to seeing what Rodgers could do and my heart didn’t break at the though of seeing #4 in another jersey.

I see a lot of negatives going to the Jets: they had a miserable season last year, they play in the same division as the New England “600 lb Gorilla” Patriots, and they’re a cold weather team. Not to mention the fact that any AFC playoff team is going to have to face (along with the Patriots) the likes of the Steelers, Jaguars, Colts, and Chargers in the playoffs.

The Bucs, on the other hand, are a warm weather team. They made the playoffs last year, and play in a weak division, and a relatively weak conference.

If Favre is looking for a chance to compete in another Super Bowl (and is willing to do it with a team not named “Vikings”), it seems to me that the Bucs are a better choice than the Jets.

ESPN News has a ‘Breaking News’ crawl that says ‘Brett Favre actively considering Packers offer…”

I would love for him to take it. I think it would be a good way to start the healing process. He can still be associated with the Packers but do it in a way that doesn’t negatively impact the team. I kind of doubt he would take it, but it would be nice if he would.

I wonder about the healing process when he sends Ed Werder a text message saying if he can’t play for the Packers he wants to play against them.

Ugh. At least it would be over but this whole mess makes me ill

  7. Donald's Designated Driver Says:

“There is some thought that the gesture was made to allow Favre a chance to consider how the Packers feel about him in the long-term. The contract offer is not dependent on Favre retiring and would be available to him regardless of whether he plays football this year.”

This is not a bribe, people. Can we officially stop calling it a bribe?

We can all agree that due the circumstances the renewed offer is a clumsy goodwilll gesture. But it was a good will gesture nonetheless.
