Suggesting Packers move to no huddle. That did work well last week and may be our only hope here.
…maybe 1-2 good rushes that Rodgers couldn’t have gotten away from but a number of these sacks are on Flynn because he’s either locking in on just one WR or he’s just not recognizing blitzes etc. He needs to be benched.
I know the Lions D is playing Lacy tough but put Starks to shake it up. Unfortunately don’t think we can rely on Flynn here for any offense.
…what do you say to your team? The score right now should be 34-10 – even WITH 3 Lions turnovers and a defensive TD. The Packers haven’t been dominated like this for years. But I also can’t remember a team so definitely in control of a game like this and only up by 7. This is crazy really.
So what do you say if you’re McCarthy. First of all, I think he needs to pull out the “jobs are on the line” speech. And he has to make sure Dom Capers knows he’s included in that. And then he needs to follow through with threats to bench people – no matter who they are (Lacy isn’t doing anything, Flynn has been awful, Hawk/Jones haven’t played this bad since…last game, etc etc).
There is a lot at stake here. As sad as it sounds, we lose this game and we’re likely going to have to shift into a full rebuilding mode.
Just to give you a sense for how ridiculous it is for a 6-time Pro-Bowler like Akers to miss a 31 yard FG – I’m not kidding when I say that if I were just thrown out on the field and told to attempt that same FG left footed (I’m right footed), as a former soccer player I’d say there would be a 60% chance that I’d make it. I’m not saying this to self-promote here. I’m saying this simply to illustrate how difficult it is to MISS from that close. While Akers has certainly had a history of some decidedly non-clutch kick situations, that miss seemed to be more affected by the Lions self-sabotage curse than anything.
Surprised I’m writing that but he just looks overwhelmed out there. Early on I wrote that I was comfortable with him back there but really the moment after I wrote that I really starting thinking I was dead wrong. I’m thinking Tolzien needs to be thrown in there.
Right now the Lions have 140 rushing yards and Stafford has thrown for 165 yards. The Packers have 17 yards rushing and 45 yards passing. Just horrible output. The Lions did also put in a strong defensive effort at Lambeau earlier this year…
The Lions are ready for Lacy – and know what’s coming with him. We need to put Starks in just to give a different look. Not saying we can’t go back to Lacy, but just for a change of style. Flynn is really needing some help from our running game as the Lions D is defending the pass really well today (easier to do when the QB is locking onto just one option like Flynn is).
