Random Ahman Green fact

by

Just came across this fascinating fact as I was researching for another post I’m about to publish:

From 2001-2004 when Ahman Green was with the Packers, he had more rushing yards (6848) and more yards from scrimmage (9036) than any other player in the NFL over that time period. Impressive.

While my “default thought” when I think of the Packers offense of recent decades is to think about Favre/Rodgers and the explosive passing games we’ve had, I do tend to forget that Ahman Green really dominated for a few years there.

They had an amazing run game there for a few years there. 2004 was special. What a great o-line: Tauscher, Rivera, Flanagan, Wahle, and Clifton. Bubba Franks at his prime also. Green would just gash defenses even when teams knew they were going to run. How that team didn’t win a championship…4th and 26….ugh!

was that the 4th and 26 year? sounds about right…terrible. that line was awesome.

Funny that is the first thing I thought of too… although i always (stubbornly) refer to it as the 4th and 1 game, because Sherman punted on 4th and 1 from the Philly 38 or so when they had been going for it all year in that situation. if they hnd it to Ahman and ice the game, 4th and 26 never happens, Favre and co. might go on to beat the Pats in the SB and a few great players and coaches legacies are changed. That is the one “missed opportunity” year that i will always be slightly bitter about.

Feel the same way about that RayMidge. I’ll never forget that decision to not go for it. So frustrating.
