I think McCarthy and Smith compare pretty evenly. Ever since McCarthy came to Green Bay, the Packers have had a good-to-great offense. Ever since Smith came to Chicago, the Bears have had a good-to-create defense (one that managed to drag that Grossman-lead offense all the way to SB XLI)

McCarthy has had the added benefit of a DC (Dom Capers, natch) that has given the Packers a good-to-great defense every year since he arrived. While Smith... he's got Mike Martz. And Martz, when he doesn't have the likes of Kurt Warner, Marshall Faulk, Torry Holt, and Isaac Bruce, has never been able to sustain a great offense for a whole season.

Martz' offensive style also has the drawback of turning his QB into hamburger after a year or two of getting pounded into the ground multiple times every Sunday.

Christo - have to disagree with you on that one. lovie has some good ideas sometimes (and only on defense) but overall I think he is a poor coach and I don't think he's a smarter coach than McCarthy. Neither is great on the fly w/re to gameflow, but McCarthy showed a lot in the Super Bowl run. I'd take McCarthy over Lovie any day.

And I agree with you Ron in that sometimes McCarthy seems to take his foot off the gas at times he shouldn't. Someone has to tell him it's OK to blow other teams out. That's just fine.

Sometimes old MM is a little too smart. He doesn't seem to want to destroy the opponent when he has the chance. In reality, this game is Capers to win or lose. GB must stop the short passing game this week. If not Forte will destory them (see Sproles). Having the #30 D is unacceptable Dom. It's time to earn your money.
