The Qatar selection was crazy. FIFA is really out of control – starting at the top with Blatter. The heat, the crazy intolerant laws, the total lack of existing infrastructure and of course, their team sucking big-time. I think they figured buying this World Cup would be the only way they could ever play in a World Cup.

I really wanted it here – I went to the opening game in Chicago in 1994 and it was quite awesome. I do wonder if/when FIFA will decide to have the World Cup be every 2 or 3 years – there would be resistance from Europe but the rest of the world would likely take to it.

Depending on the CBA it is now possible to use the franchise tag on another player as they certainly would have used it on Williams if needed. That is a bargaining chip in the Packers favor when dealing with Jenkins or another player. The Packers may not value Jenkins or Bishop at the ‘franchise’ price tag but they can tag them to buy more time for negotiations. I would think Jenkins would want a long term deal instead of the tag for one season. Might make negotiations easier.

I had imagined a potential World cup game at Lambeau (ok that would have been a huuuge longshot even if the US were selected, but a chance!) – and now I’ll have to settle for skipping work to watch players melt in that Middle Eastern sun. This is no fun.
