Nick - didn't realize we had a fellow soccer guy in the Packergeeks world! I played for years myself and love the sport (get so nervous for US games that I feel like I do during a Packer playoff game...nauseous - nearly hurled during the England game). I had the same thought about changing to 10 v 10. If the rest of the world did it, maybe, but that's highly unlikely...

How about the refs in this World Cup? Their poor decisions hugely affected England and Mexico both over the weekend. And all the cards...

Bitterly disappointed by the US crapping out like they did. Ghana came to play but we could have been better - still not sure why Fielhaber doesn't start regularly as the offense opens up big-time whenever he comes on.

I wish the World Cup happened every 2 years. Europe would resist because of the European Championship etc but I just find the World Cup to be such a compelling competition and I think many of the countries outside of Europe would love to do this. (I suppose club teams wouldn't be too excited about it though).

That was a good article - but having played soccer for 20 years, I winced a little at the changes he suggested.

Although not a soccer blog, my comment on his 10v10 is as follows: the biggest question is whether you want to raise popularity in the US leagues or perform better on the international stage. Changing MLS rules will hurt us internationally (as long as the majority of our players are from that league, which a good chunk are) - and risk alienating current consumers...

It may be redundant - but I think soccer can still grow organically here!

I can see a lot of reasons why the Mike Martz experiment will be a full-on disaster for the Bears. On the other hand... Jay Cutler can play a lot better than he did last year, and Martz could easily be the guy to help him find his way back.

I have to say, though, I was surprised that the Bears didn't pick up any WR help in free agency or the draft. Right now, they're basically hoping that Aromashodu's break out last year wasn't just a flash-in-the-pan...

Agree, this would not be a good year to look past the Bears. Too much riding on this season for them. If Peppers decides he wants to play, Pack & Vikes line better be up for it, and it appears the offense is buying into the new system.
