The ranking is nice, but all that matters is that the defense is playing unselfish, team ball and forcing turnovers. If the defense keeps playing as they have been, the next 5 games should be fun. 3-2 should get us in, but I think we'll go 4-1.

i had a coach in high school who cringed at having the #1 rated team in the state.

i'm such a downer.

but really, this is something to treasure, even if it only lasts a week. stepping outside of 'big-picture' fandom and realism - to have the #1 ranked defense for 12 minutes in caper's 1st season after what we've had to endure (sanders) recently - that's newsworthy, and if i wasn't worried about paying rent this month - it'd be pbr worthy. i'm sure someone else will have one (or more) for me.

also, on a totally unrelated note, i think i have seen the word 'concussion' more times in connection with the nfl this year than ever before. the packers have had like 4 in the last 2 games, and it seems almost every team has been defending sitting or playing players with concussions every week. is it just me? is it just a buzz-word recently? did Riddell start making the helmet padding out of old magnets covered in gauze to save a few bucks? in any case, it's pretty unbelievable the beating these guys put their bodies through every week. i heard bart scott on espn radio a while back talking about how on a particular hit of ben roth...elis...berger.. (sp?), when he heard the noises of the hit and the force of ben hitting the ground, he thought he might have killed him. that's messed up.

sorry. #1 d. right on.
