jsonline is reporting that a contract deal with Mark Tauscher is close after had a positive tryout with the team today. In the previous post below a few hours ago, I suggested that we should cut Poppinga and sign Mark Tauscher. Now, I’m just waiting on word re Poppinga.
I’m glad that Tauscher will be rejoining this team. As I’ve said to Brother Steve, Tauscher is a very positive presence in the locker room and he’s a very smart football player. Even if he can’t contribute as a RT right away (which he may with the bye), he’s the kind of guy who could help bring along our young guys. I actually don’t think it’s a stretch to say he’d probably be a better o-line coach RIGHT NOW than James Campen.
I like that we went out and did something right away today. I’m pleased by this development.

You have to wonder if this wasn’t the plan all along. Everyone has been saying since last season that he wouldn’t be ready until Oct. and with a bye week in Oct. in makes sense to wait until now to bring him back. Why waste a roster spot for a guy that can’t suit up? Let’s just hope he is fully recovered and back to form! They lost Blackmon for the season so I doubt they release Poppinga.

So, Ted’s not TOTALLY stupid. We’ll see how this goes, but it is a promising development.

The two old men on the corners again. That will be an upgrade. Anyone who thinks Barbre played well last night hasn’t gone back to the VCR. Barbre was handled all night. Moving Spitz back to center and Sitton and Colledge at guard will give them the best line up they can put on the field. Lang may have potential but no experience.
