If there is truth to the following rumor from ESPN, I suggest TT make a move for Anquan Boldin before it’s too late. I know WR is a present position of strength for the Pack, but adding someone as talented at Boldin for a 2nd round pick and a throw-in type player would very much be worth it. And, our WR group would then be brutally difficult to line-up against.

You wouldn’t want Boldin on the Packers? Can you imagine the match-up problems that would cause other teams? All for a 2nd round pick (and maybe a throw-in like Poppinga)? Totally worth it to me.

No way.
The Packers already have two Boldin-lites (possession receivers): James Jones & Jordy Nelson. They need that second round pick for young players filling voids in their talent scheme, not (admittedly) more capable versions of people they already have. He’s a very good player, but he’s not that much better/different, and not worth the opportunity cost.
Besides, there’s the matter of a future contract: if you sign Boldin, you’re not going to be able to afford Greg Jennings. And though Greg isn’t a hulk of durable humanoid flesh, he’s a deep threat (16 yards/catch career) that Boldin isn’t (<13 YPC), and the Packers can’t afford to do without one. He’s also three years younger than AB.
Again – no way.

He’s definitely worth a 2nd round pick in terms of on the field performance. He is a great WR. It’s the contract that he wants that is the issue. It’s not like the Cards don’t like Boldin as a player but they just can’t pay him what he wants after the contract they gave Fitzgerald and that is a team that was one game away from a championship! Warner and Fitz both even said they would take a cut to keep Boldin and the Cards are still not willing to pony up the big contract for him.
You can only have so much cap space tied into certain positions. Jennings is going to get a top end deal and so wants Boldin. Both are going to get at least $9 million a year if not more. Factor in Driver who is around $6 in cap space this year and next and they would be allocating at least $24 million to one position next year. You would have ~20% of your cap space in three players at the same position. Maybe Ted does the deal though if he doesn’t want to extend Jennings and/or feels that Driver is about done.

DaveK hits it- Boldin would be a great pick up, but the reason he’s on the block is that he wants a new contract. One that would make Jennings all but unaffordable. If the Packers don’t sign him shortly after making the deal, then odds are he doesn’t report, and we’re left with nothing.
Only someone that wants to sign him to a high end contract is going to want to make a play for him.

I hope TT does not do this.
He’s avoided all the expensive free agents. Given Boldin’s contract expectations, trading for him is little different than signing a free agent except with loss of a draft pick and a player.
For a receiver?!?!?
The Pack already has one of the top receiver corps in the league. With health and another year under their belts (spending that year with the QB who will be throwing to them this year….)…..
There is simply no need.

Friday, Eskin told us that he reported the Eagles indeed made an offer to the Cardinals for Anquan Boldin, and that it was no higher than a third-round pick. He also said that, contrary to other reports, the Eagles have not offered a second-round pick and a third-round pick for Boldin.
