It will be interesting to see how they plug him into the line. I think it makes Wells more expendable if you have a guy that can back up Spitz at center. Or, if Wells is truly the best center then it allows you to keep Spitz at guard even if Wells gets hurt.

Well, the Packers’ plan to make the O-line interchangeable was a failure. It’s just not easy to move someone from guard to tackle or guard to center. It can be done, but the constant shifting does not make for a consistant front line. It’s much better to have depth at each position.

Glad to see TT did something however, if you haven’t seen this already you may want to take alook.

Hopefully, Green Bay’s coaches will be able to improve him a little. I would think getting out of Buffalo would be a pretty good reason want to improve.

Regardless of what Buffalo’s opinion is, he is in the top four O-linemen at GB. He is no All-Pro but he is already an improvement to the O-Line. For once TT did good!

When I saw the signing my thought was not that we had a new starter. I figured that we now had someone that could step into a spot if one of our current starters go down.

I think if Preston can become a legit starting guard then it creates a bunch of flex for the line. It allows the Packers to put the bigger Spitz at center. Then you have a very capible back-up in Wells at center and that allows Spitz to become the primary back-up guard if either Colledge or Preston would get hurt. If Preston washed out though and can’t crack the staring line-up at guard then they will probably need to leave Wells as starting center and start Spitz at guard. If Wells misses time again then it is back to muscial chairs on the line. Depending on the draft this is how I see the line-up shaking out if Preston can be a legit starting guard for this team.

    R.T. – Sitton / Tauscher
    R.G. – Preston / Sitton
    C – Spitz
    L.G. – Colledge
    L.T. – Clifton

Moll, Giacomini, Barbre will compete for the backup tackle spots.

Just having Clifton, Colledge, and Spitz starting each week at those same spots would improve the line. I can see those three moving some people in the run game.

It appears that Jason Smith and Euguene Monroe will be top 5 picks. That leaves Andre Smith and Michael Oher as the other o-lineman that might warrant selection at #9. I guess it depends who else is left on the board. Most mock drafts have Oher going in the middle of the 1st and the issues with Andre Smith seems to be an ongoing debate amoung Packer Nation.
