I believe if Favre wants to play for these other teams, he can agree to restructure his contract beforehand and prevent them from taking the big cap hit.

Perhaps the marketing deal was discussed in March, but was the offer $20M then, or did they suddenly increase it this week (i.e. as a bribe)?

$20M seems like an awful lot for a few public appearances. Did Marino and Elway get that much? Do the Packers have nothing better to spend that much money on?

_____________________________________________________________Only Tampa Bay can afford the Cap money. So, will someone help me with an explanation. It is obvious that if Favre’s position is unchanged from an outright release none of the teams he claims to want to play for can afford his current salary. The Bears are closest, but they said today they don’t want him.

The Comish delaying the signature on the Reinstatement Letter again. So, now it is Tuesday before Favre can show up in GB.

This analysis provides no answers only more questions. Thanks again for the tip Trav.

Thanks Trav! Arrrggghhh! Goodell anounced that he does not plan to sign the reinstatement again tody. “Substantial negotiations are under way between Favre and the Packers. Goodell is affraid to sign the letter, GB is affraid to have him in camp, and Favre………… (I have no idea) I’m going Mass twice this Sunday.

verno, where did you get the Werder quote? That says a lot and goes back to the original goal for Favre and Cook. Apparently, it remains unchanged. As a FA he will have to negotiate a price for the season. I don’t have the Cap numbers for Minnesota, Bears, and you now have to include the Lions (he said North Division). I’m willing to guess that none of them have that kind of cap money available.

The Bears just renegotiated Urlacker, Orten, and Hester. Not much room there. Minnesota has a very high priced defense, offensive line, running backs and kickers. I don’t see them having $12 million available. Detroit? If he goes to Detroit the Packers may be the team that is responsible for ending his streak.

This is still giving me anxiety attacks. Something else is there and why are both sides dancing around it?

Your third point is what makes this such a weird issue after the things that have happened in the past month and a half. Especially after he tells Ed Werder that if he can’t play for the Pack he wants to play against them. Love this blog, btw
