Do the Packers Have Call Records?

The guys at PFT have posted some reporting on a rumor that the Packers may have telephone records indicating that Brett Favre spoke multiple times to Minnesota offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell and may have communicated with Vikings head coach Brad Childress.  The PFT guys theorize that Favre may still be using a cell phone paid for by the Packers, meaning the bills would go to Lombardi Avenue rather than Kiln, Mississippi.  As we often point out, early reports are often wrong, but this would certainly explain why the Packers are so confident that they “have the goods” on the Vikings.

Listening to XM Radio this morning, a caller to the Fox Sports show threw out an interesting theory: Packers trade Favre to the AFC, followed by the Vikings pulling the trigger on the “Herschel Walker Trade - Part Deux”. More or less mortgaging their future with players and picks to the AFC in order to bring him into town. Granted it is different ownership in MN, etc., but I guess it didn’t sound that far-fetched when pitched.

Using a cell phone paid for by the Packers? If true, this guy needs help and needs it now. I hope Bus Cook is planning to baby sit him through life.

[...] Packergeeks cite a Pro Football Talk report about the possibility of the Packers having records for a phone given to Favre by the Packers, the intimation being that this is the evidence the Packers are using in their grievance against the Vikings. [...]

I am not sure if the other teams have all the benefits that Favre is looking for at his job. The Packers provide Favre a company phone!

If the Vikings were tampering it explains a lot. It explains why Favre is demanding a release rather than working for a trade and why he doesn’t seem concerned about burning all his bridges in Green Bay. It also explains why he has seemed to change his mind all of a sudden. I can see the Vikings stroking his ego, promising him a Super Bowl and not having to do much work outside of games.
