Jason Wilde, the fantastic writer for the Wisconsin State Journal, just said on Homer’s ESPN Milwaukee radio show that he has heard from an “impeccable” source that Favre talked to the team about coming back a few weeks ago, was essentially told he was not wanted, so Favre and/or his agent Bus Cook have asked for Favre’s release. If this is true, this is a sad day.
As I stated in the previous post, I’m not in the camp that despises Favre for feeling this way and “being a distraction” (as I’ve heard many times on the radio today). Fact is, he had an incredible year last year, was a major reason we got so far and chances are good, I believe, that if he came back, the Packers chances of going to the Super Bowl would increase immediately. While of course, I wish he would have handled this all differently, if I were GM I’d at least talk to him and see what’s going on.
However, if what Wilde says is true, then Favre may end up with another team, the Packers brass will look bad to many for turning him away and I would argue there would be even more pressure on Rodgers with Favre in the league. As I said before, I don’t see this going in a good direction and I don’t see it ending well.

Favre should stay retired. Rodgers is ready (although injury prone). Maybe he comes back if Rodgers goes down for the year, not otherwise. My worst nightmare———–starting QB for the Bears, number 4. After all, we had Jim McMahon after his Super Bowl experience (over the hill that he was then). I see TT taking huge heat for this–leave the guy alone-he is doing well.

This entire story is a mess . . . ugh.
Is TT going all Jerry krause on us, so eager to remake the team in his own image that he turns away an all-time great? Lord I hope not, the Bulls still haven’t recovered.
My opinion is that every year you do the thing that gives you the best chance to win, you play for the future when you have no other choice. The best chance in ‘08 is having #4 at QB. You deal with Rodgers or whoever else it turns out to be, after that. Full Stop. It’s no insult to Rodgers. But I cannot see this thing ending well. dang.

While I understand any elite athlete having difficulty hanging it up, I find myself very disappointed that Favre would place his ego/need to play over the health of the Green Bay Packers. Say what you will, but Favre’s recent comments Re retirement/wanting to play again will have a corrosive effect on the team’s chemistry. I believe Al Harris said that “some (players) on the Packers would welcome Favre back.” That implies there are others on the team who would not welcome him back. Hmmmm.
Rodgers has gone to great lengths to insert himself as the leader of the team. From a team-building standpoint, what Favre is doing is undermining all of that. How can that help the team?
Favre has to understand that he is hurting the Packers, not helping them at this point.
Is it all about you Brett or the team?

You must all be f@#$% crazy!!!! We are taling about the man who has made GB football what it is today. Do I have to remind you all of the 70’s and 80’s – we sucked!!! How can you put so much stock in a glass man like Rodgers when we have seen so many other teams struggle to find a QB. I think you all need to look at what Favre has done for us and how much he could do for us this year. Rodgers has proven nothing other than he is breakable. WAKE UP!!!!!!

You think Brett did everything by himself PackerBacker? What world do you live in? Brett has been holding this franchise back for too long. I have moved on, as have a lot of other fans. Brett is an attention hungry egomaniac. The Packers took a risk on Favre and it paid off. The Packers made Brett Favre! Brett Favre DID NOT MAKE the Packers. You tarnish Vince Lombardi’s memory with all the Brett Favre made the Packers BS. Grow up!
