What’s your lifetime shooting percentage?

This morning as I was picking up toys, I shot a plastic triangular toy thing into it’s square container from across the room - drained it. Next was Olaf the bear into the toy chest - money. Then it was Ewen the giant lamb chucked on top of all the toys - the object-throwing equivalent of a swish. Suddenly I wondered, “what is my lifetime shooting percentage”? I concluded with no further thought probably close to 80%. How could it be that high you wonder? Not sure - there is a very good chance I came up with such a high number simply to make myself feel good. But I can say that I do concentrate really hard whenever trying to throw something in the garbage, the sink, the toy chest. So, I’m usually dialed in.

(The best part of this post is that once you read it, you will likely find yourself concentrating more on making that shot and you may start to keep track. Please then come back to Packergeeks to tell us what you guess your lifetime shooting percentage is…Trav, my guess is you already do this and most likely have a higher percentage than just about anyone).

UPDATE: Need to revise my earlier claim of 80%. Even if I was trying to make myself feel good, that is just too high. I would put it more realisticially at 2/3 or 66%.

My lifetime percentage is actually pretty low. I started out very strong as a youth, but then migrated to the Antoine Walker theory of shooting: why take a contested 20 footer when you can take a wide open 24 footer? As a result, trying to get the teddy bear into the toy chest from the hallway outside of his room has dropped the average considerably.

I am trying to get my 5 year old son to put all his toys away with the long snap technique. Get him started young and get a nice Rob Davis-type career out of it for him. It’s either that or tying his right arm to his body to force him into a career as a left-handed shorter reliever.

This is a blatant attempt to distract from the real issue at hand.

    That’s a given…

hilarious - long-snappers and 3d string QBs get paid a lot for doing a little - more than any profession I can think of.

however, I would imagine that for you, you would need to factor in things like basketball practice or casual shoot-arounds during which you likely shoot 90%. That would skew higher, no? Remember, it’s lifetime % which includes all shots you’ve ever taken.

I’d guess I am in the high 80s. I have always had a great ability to though things into garbage cans. I played basketball back in high school and still mess around with it in work leagues but my garbage tossing percentage has always been higher than my actual shooting percentage.

I think my Norbert’s years in scenic DePere, WI hurts my overall lifetime percentage. I would best describe my college career as “modest” and given our overall team mediocrity, I had to adjust to more of a shooters mentality (quantity not necessarily quality - see box score from 4-24 game senior year) than what Rebbie would have allowed me (or anyone for that matter) to do at East.

Bottom line, I believe I am slowly recovering to a much more respectible overall average (counting those 4 years worth of game shots, practice shots, and trying to plant the 12th tall boy of Busch Light that evening in the trash from across the room). I think the 3 kids and their toys have helped me make up some significant ground and I am within 6-8 months of getting myself back into the low 90’s again.
