Belichick played the NFL commissioner like a fiddle. Goodell had the opportunity to really get to the bottom of this, but it took Congress' sniffing around to get him to do much other than shove it under the rug.

Guess Goodell must figure would be bad for the league to actually merit out appropriate justice, like giving back all Belichick's Super bowl trophies, forfeiting all their games since 2000, relinquishing all personal achievements and awards by Patriot players since they were all fruit from a poison tree, so to speak (http://packsmack.blogspot.com/2007/12/tom-brady-can-not-be-nfl-mvp.html), banning Belichick from ever coaching in the NFL again, yanking the franchise out of New England and all those other things that are extremely painful but fall under the category of punishment fitting the crime. But if he doesn't do it, he doesn't run the NFL, cheaters do.

I think Congress is going to get Belichick's closet opened and we are going to see some ghosts. He'll be done. And the wheels are going to start falling off the Patriot express accordingly.
